Double Quartet started with an idea I had in college— to bring together a jazz quartet and a string quartet for a multimedia performance under animated graphics in a planetarium. That performance happened in early 2020, in my final semester, just weeks before the pandemic began.
On the other side of the pandemic, I recorded this music with some amazing musicians in Los Angeles.
Each of the pieces is based on a short story, a memory, or a person that's shaped my life. There are four main "movements" (Biblioteca de Babel, Tlon, Moon Milk, and Braking Radiation), which are separated by short interludes— little vignettes that prepare the piece that follows. Like the live performance, the album is meant to be heard in order, but you can listen however you like.
Enjoy!
